Jergus started Land Affairs with the goal of creating a landscape architecture studio that tells powerful stories through diverse perspectives and building on the experience he gained after working for many years with some remarkable friends and colleagues at PWL Partnership.

At Land Affairs, we recognize that every place has a unique story that is connected to deep cultural roots and ecological ties.

Our design approach comes from a place of listening first. We listen to our client’s needs and incorporate their ideas of the site and its’ unique conditions. We listen to community members and consider how their vision can come to life through design.

Our projects create opportunities for acquiring knowledge through sharing, playing and generational exchanges. We design places that stimulate the imagination of the youngest to the oldest.

Each of our projects begins with a process of unlearning, recognizing our biases and prejudices, and educating ourselves about the place, its’ people and history.  We strive to design places that serve individuals, families and communities and allow them to come together (experience landscape) in a meaningful way.

Land Affairs is located on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We honour the Nation’s stories, language, knowledge, and learn from them on a daily basis. We work towards recognizing and unlearning the patterns that have sustained systematic discrimination against Indigenous people and culture within our society.

With a balance of creative and practical experience, Jergus brings a unique perspective to landscape architecture. Jergus is highly skilled in all phases of project management, from collaborative ideation to detailed construction design. His notable works include large-scale neighbourhood plans, institutional landscapes, dense urban housing projects, and trail systems.
Jergus’s design practice aspires to create community projects that reflect a site’s multilayered human and ecological story. He begins from a place of listening first and speaking second. This approach has established deep, trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, marginalized groups, clients, and colleagues.
